“Report Missing People, Don’t Just Complain,” Museveni Tells Opposition on Kidnapping Claims

President Museveni has urged opposition to report the alleged kidnapped of missing people to government agencies so that they are punished.

This follows the opposition’s continued allegations that some of their supporters have been missing, despite government reports showing that they are not there.

The president made these remarks on December 22, 2023, during the end-of-year media engagement at Statehouse Nakasero. He condemned the arrest without trial, noting that it was illegal.

“These arrests are illegal, and the way to fight them is by reporting these missing people to authorities should fight it as I fight it, but also the public should use the structure they have to expose this because that was the purpose,” the president stated.

The president made an insurance that arrest without being taken to court. It’s illegal and it should not happen. Anybody arrested should be brought to court within 48 hours.

He urged the public to report any information about missing persons to the police station, if action is not taken, they are to be blamed.

President Museveni also advised Ugandans not to be bothered by the 2026 poll, saying that there is still time and it’s not a matter to be discussed now on who should be on the ballot paper.

“The issue of election should come later and shall be dealt with at the right time. That there are enough problems to be handled,” said the president.
