TRAFFIC; Reckless driving, a leading cause of motor accidents along highways

The Uganda traffic police department has classified reckless driving as the leading cause of motor accidents along major highways in the country.

Top on the list of highways that often record many motor accidents emanating from reckless driving include Kampala-Masaka, the Entebbe Expressway and Northern Bypass.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson says reckless driving including over speeding, driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety, or showing willful disregard of consequences when operating a vehicle by most drivers are key causes of these accidents.

Regarding the recent fatal accident that claimed the life of the Nile High School-Mukono proprietor Yesse Mubangizi Kamanyire along Kampala-Masaka highway, ASP Nampiima blamed it on the recklessness of a boda operator.
