RDC furious over school dropout rates

Additional reporting by Charlotte Nyirazirikana , Gad Byomuhangi

The Deputy RDC Kanungu Emmy Ngabirano has decried the increased number of pupils dropping out of school with no action being taken to save the situation.

Mr Ngabirano made the remarks this week while on inspection tour of selected primary schools in the district where he commissioned newly constructed teachers houses and latrines.

He said that parents whose children have dropped out of school without genuine reasons face arrest and he asked local council leaders to identify those parents so that they are penalised.

He said that the government has put in place classroom blocks, recruit and pay teachers salaries , provide text books , therefore there should be no reason why parents should fail to buy inform and lunch and ensure their children are forever in school until they attain life skills to help them in future.

The Deputy RDC was accompanied by the LC 5 Vice Chairman Gad Byomuhangi and Senior Education Officer Charlotte Nyirazirikana and they interacted with school management committee and PTA executives and they listened to several issues raised which they promised would be followed up.

The team visited Rwanga Primary School where they toured the ongoing construction of a 3 twin teachers house, Kibimbiri PS and Kayonza PS where they commissioned newly constructed latrines.

Ngabirano asked the headteachers , School Management Committee members and PTA of those schools to ensure that contractors do value for money work since they their supervisors and their children are the direct beneficiaries.
