Presidential Candidates Disregard for COVID19 SOPs is Absurd!

A lot of Ugandans are dying now, and the cause of death is known to be Covid-19.

I wonder why opposition politicians continue to hoodwink unsuspecting citizens with lies on the campaign trail to attend mass rallies in these campaigns without following the SOP’s.

It is therefore shocking that reckless politicians are still moving from one place to another with crowds deliberately spreading the virus to innocent Ugandans.

By any health standard public rallies are super spreader of Covid -19 and in most of these rallies, there is a little effort put forward to follow the guidelines about social distancing and use of mask. And the communities where these rallies have been taking place are already paying the price.

Unmasked and unsocial distanced gatherings are likely to spread the virus more than masked gatherings. Many youths aren’t bothered about Covid -19 at all. These leaders lie on the campaign trails that banning rallies would be more to do with politics than their health.

According to the latest Covid -19 update, Uganda has registered 27,766 cases and 244 reported deaths. However most of these cases are still infected as only about a third or 9,826 have recovered.

In the most recent report, we have seen a tripling in infections and numerous suspicious deaths involving prominent people.

Last week it was reported that Uganda had entered stage four of the pandemic, where community infections have become rampant and it’s so saddening that some leaders do not adhere to the Ministry of health SOP’s

Someone has got to put a stop to this nonsense. It is like the state has abandoned its primary responsibility of protecting its people.
