President Museveni Urges World Leaders to Support Each Other’s Prosperity

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the chair of the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China, has called upon world leaders to support each other’s prosperity and ensure that nobody is left behind.

The call was made during the closure of the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala.

In his speech, President Museveni stated that in his one year of chairmanship, he will focus on three key issues.

“I will focus on enabling the participation of all persons in spheres of production of goods and services, enabling access to markets for ease of buying and selling of goods and services, and finally creating enabling soft and physical infrastructure in the sectors of energy, information and technology, and transport,” the President stated.

However, according to the president, prosperity cannot be achieved if the group still has pockets of insecurity, as this is among the top impediments to investment.

“But this assumes that we have peace amongst ourselves, because if we don’t have peace, then we can’t achieve anything,” he added.

Additionally, he states that he will have to be in touch with some of the brothers and sisters who have tensions or even conflicts to see how win-win solutions can be found.

He thanked everyone who participated in the summits for being patient and staying up until the end.

The bloc is the largest intergovernmental organisation of developing countries in the UN, representing 80% of the world’s population.

The chairmanship of the bloc rotates among member countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America based on regional principles. G77, and China has 135 member states.
