President Yoweri K. Museveni has urged the country’s judges to use the next Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Summit of Chief Justices in Africa, which will be held in March in Uganda, to lobby for systemic improvement.
President Museveni said this in a message delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo on February 9, 2024, during the opening of the New Law Year 2024 at the new Supreme Court building.
“I am happy that through mediation, you are strengthening our traditional African justice mechanisms. Our justice methods are more acceptable. They give results that are reconciliatory and keep peaceful relationships among our people,” Museveni stated.
According to President Museveni, people will always have hope in the courts of law, hence the need to ask the judges to ensure that they play their part in ensuring justice as the government continues to support them.
“The government of Uganda will continue providing an enabling environment to discharge justice for the people of Uganda,” he stated.
President Museveni further emphasised the use of the original dispute resolution system, stating that it is quick, cheap, and acceptable to the communities.
The president thanked the judiciary system for hosting the ADR Summit of the Chief Justices of Africa and having it in Uganda in March 2024, noting that it is a good initiative for finding solutions to quicken the justice system’s processes.
