President Museveni on Saturday urged the people of Koboko District and West Nile Sub region at large to embrace the job- creating sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT to alleviate poverty.

He told them to adopt the four-acre model of agriculture where each household must own an acre for fruits, another for food crops, one for animals, and also pastures.

” We must now think of wealth creation. It brings me to what we have been preaching; commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT sector opportunities. The Government is doing everything to support those four job- creating sectors but at an individual level, you must take initiative,” he said.

The President re echoed the message as he launched the phase four of the national backbone infrastructure connectivity project for West Nile and Karamoja subregions, at a function attended by area leaders and a mammoth audience.

The project for which Government is partnering with the World Bank will extend internet connection to the districts of Pakwach, Nebbi, Arua, Yumbe, Koboko, Adjumani, Katakwi and the border points of Oraba, Vurra and Mpondwe.

President Museveni says the project will bring services closer to the people as well as provide international connections to neighbouring countries like DR Congo and South Sudan.

“Internet access comes with lots of opportunities especially for the young people. Business Processing Outsourcing will become easier, creating jobs for our young professionals like accountants and auditors,” he explained.

The President, prior to the launch, had commissioned the Koboko water supply system and sanitation project. He said piped water will ease their way of life.

He said Government has already kick started plans to construct the Atiak-Yumbe-Adjumani-Koboko road, as well as electricity, which shall be supplemented with solar power.

Museveni also pledged Shs50 million to the area’s ex-servicemen SACCO.

The President has embarked on a nationwide drive to enlighten citizens on wealth creation, the fight against household poverty and the measures the Government is undertaking to achieve this.
