H.E. Kaguta Museveni has made a statement via his official Twitter account that he will not be attending the Heroes Day celebrations.
The president announced on Twitter that he will be unable to participate in the festivities since he tested positive for COVID-19 and ended up in self-isolation after the final tests were positive yesterday. He did, however, admit that despite having a few minor flu-like symptoms, he is not in any danger.
“By God’s grace, all is well, and I am only experiencing mild symptoms. However, I prefer to err on the side of caution and self-isolate for now,” the president said.
The president has therefore designated the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, to preside over the celebrations slated for tomorrow, June 9, 2023, at Kasala Catholic Parish in Butuntumula Sub County, Luwero District.
“I have therefore self-isolated at Nakasero, and I have delegated my work for today and tomorrow to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja,” said the President.
The president confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19 despite being very cautious about the virus since its outbreak. He, however, relaxed about wearing masks because they gave him allergies.
The President also stated that his absence marks the second forced leave in 53 years; the first occurred in 1971 when he (then operating as FRONASA) began an armed uprising against Idi Amin.
“I have therefore got the second forced leave in the last 53 years, ever since 1971, when we started fighting Idi Amin, the other time was when I had a problem with my sinuses and had to lie low for some days at Mweya,” added the President.
