Uganda police force has warned the public against online scammers who use social media platforms mostly WhatsApp to con people of their money.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the scammers have become so notorious to the extent of conning and fleecing money from officers in fake career courses.
“The public should avoid being misled by social media scams with items for sale from small businesses because they can receive items as counterfeit or much different from the one advertised”. Enanga said.
Additionally, police called for alertness as regards look-alike websites which offer very attractive rates for services.

“I was contacted on WhatsApp by a man who claimed to be a citizen from the UK. He proposed to me and promised to come to Uganda for the actual marriage. Then one day, he took photos while shopping in the UK and texted me to be ready to receive my luggage the following morning” narrated one of the victims from Entebbe.
She added that I received a call in the morning from someone who pretended to be an official from Entebbe airport. He directed me to first deposit 400000shs on his Airtel line and call back after. This made me realize that all this was fake.
