Police Launches Investigation on Mobile Money Robbery in Ntinda

Kampala Metropolitan Police is actively investigating a tragic robbery incident that occurred on the evening of November 21st 2024 at around 7:00 PM in Kiwatule Central Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala City.

In the statement released on November 22, 2024, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson confirmed that Mr. Albert Tugume a 34-year-old, a mobile money operator, was preparing to close his shop when he was attacked by an assailant intent on robbing him of his cash.

“During the scuffle, a boda boda rider, Mr. Banabas Sabiti 30 years attempted to intervene but was shot by another armed assailant waiting nearby, “Owoyesigyire said.

He further highlighted that the main target was to rob a mobile money operator who attempted to flee but was pursued and fatally shot by the suspects and made away with a bag believed to have contained an unspecified amount of cash.

 Owoyesigyire stated that Police investigators arrived at the scene and recovered critical evidence that will aid in the ongoing investigation. Additionally, a vehicle, registration number UBH 045H, was found damaged by stray bullets.

The injured individual was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment of bullet wounds but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries and was then transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a post-mortem examination.

Police extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Tugume Albert during this difficult time.
