The police in Kabale Municipality have foiled a protest by pre-intern doctors residing in the area over the Ministry of Health’s failure to deploy them to government hospitals.

The group started with a demonstration along the garage street in Kabale Municipality as they headed for a press conference at Christ the King Hall.

The protestors carried placards with them while chanting, “Respect the President’s directive and deploy us.”

The police, commanded by ASP Anthony Akanyijuka the Kabale Central Police Officer in Charge, swung into action and ordered the intern protestors to surrender their placards and dissipate from the streets.

“You are doing this illegally, and this can lead to your arrest,” said ASP Anthony

According to one of the protestors, they are not comfortable with the way the Ministry of Health is responding to their expectations despite their pleas.

The new interns were supposed to be deployed by April 1, 2023, but according to a circular from the Ministry of Health to the Directors of Hospitals, the one-year training will commence after ironing out key issues.
