Police in Nateete have foiled a robbery attempt at two Fortebet betting companies, leading to the death of one suspect.
According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, while speaking to the media, the incident, which occurred on January 6, 2025, began when a group of six men armed with pangas attacked the first Fortebet branch along Nateete-Masaka Road.
These then made away with an undisclosed sum of money before proceeding to a second Fortebet branch at Nateete Business Center with intentions to strike again but were apprehended before they could carry out their plan.
“Police received a tip-off about the first robbery and dispatched a rapid response team to intercept the suspects. On arrival at the second scene, law enforcement officers confronted the robbers, who attempted to flee, Onyango said.
During the pursuit, police neutralized one of the suspects, identified as Kayongo Benard Nadumba, 25, a resident of Kitawuluzi, Mutundwe, Rubaga Division.
Police collected statements from witnesses and recovered a wallet and a bunch of keys from the scene. The regional flying squad from Kampala metropolitan south is currently hunting for the remaining five suspects.
Onyango commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation in alerting authorities promptly and urged businesses in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
