The Uganda Police Force in a statement released May 7, 2019 called on the public to disregard the “fake” viral photo of a tortured male that has been circulating on social media.

The viral photo which Police dismissed as “fake and an online smear campaign” was allegedly of a one Ashburg Kato, a social media political blogger who is said to be one of the highly paid aides of Kyadondo East MP Hon Robert Kyagulanyi, aka, Bobi Wine, to run his social media propaganda campaigns.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga condemned the circulation of the photo which he described as fake and a mere propaganda tool adopted by immature politicians.

“We strongly condemn the circulation of the photo which was established to be the image of a black man tortured in an informal Libyan slave market where they were being sold at an average of $400, as an online smear campaign, that is well coordinated to put the reputation of police and sister security agencies in disrepute, ” read the statement.

Enanga called on politicians and the likes of Ashburg Kato to “adopt strategies that are holistic and consistent with mature politics.” He also advised Kato, his relatives and friends to register a complaint “clearly indicating circumstances under which he initially disappeared and resurfaced for better leads to the investigating team.”

Kato who was reportedly missing since Saturday, May 4, 2019 resurfaced Tuesday 7, looking very healthy.
