Police have issued a stern warning to boda-boda operators against overloading school-going children as the third term reopens.
The third term is due to reopen on Monday, September 16th, 2024, and police traffic has now restricted boda-boda operations not to carry more than two children per trip to ensure the safety of learners.
Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, while addressing the media, also cautioned parents against hiring one boda-boda operator to transport all the children, a move he says often endangers the lives of learners.
“You must hire more motorcycles; otherwise, you’re risking the lives of your children,” Kananura guided.
He advised parents to ensure that children under 12 must be accompanied by adults when being transported to school on a motorcycle.
Kananura also urged caretakers and the school management to get those who raise red flags on highways for the children to cross.
Speaking to students, he implored them to board licensed vehicles and avoid boarding tinted or unfamiliar vehicles.
He reminded drivers to avoid carrying excess passengers and to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
