Police have cautioned students, parents, and teachers ahead of schools reopening to remain vigilant against criminal acts.

While addressing the weekly press briefing on January 30 at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, the police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, said that it is important to observe child safety in schools.

SCP Enanga advised parents and teachers to take responsibility for training children on how to avoid tragic incidents.

According to Enanga, it is crucial that schools keep a record of emergency contact details and ensure that the learners are aware of who to contact in case of an emergency.

“It is important to help our children memorize parents’ contact information, their full names, and their home addresses now that they are going back to school,” he said.

He noted that students and pupils must always be alert and make an effort to learn the routes they take while leaving and going to their respective schools.

“It is important for children being taken to school to memorize the routes, landmarks, and safe areas between school and home so that they have somewhere to run in case of an emergency,” he added.

Fred Enanga advised schools to never let children leave the school premises unattended because of the existence of child predators and kidnappers.

He also cautioned students against practicing bullying and teasing, noting that it is an intolerable offense.

This follows schools resuming today for school, whereas most of the schools will be going back on February 6, 2023.
