Nwoya District officials are on the spot over funds meant to facilitate the Parish Development Model-PDM programme in the district.
According to Christopher Omara the Nwoya Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the offices in question are the former Chief Administrative Officer’s office, Chief Finance Office (CFO) and the Administrative Office (AO).
Omara confirmed that he had ordered for the arrest of the officers in question for failing to account for Ugx 417m that was issued by Government as a start-up fund for facilitating and implementing PDM activities.
“I have ordered Police to arrest the former CAO, the Chief Finance Officer and the Administrative Officer after receiving a directive from PDM Secretariat. The officers in question mismanaged Ugx 417m that was disbursed by Government to facilitate and implement PDM activities, for instance; administrative costs, salaries, equipment procurement, and revolving fund to approved groups in Nwoya,” he said.
He also said that special investigations that were conducted early last week revealed that the suspected individuals diverted Ugx 208m to their individual accounts.
The external audit that was carried out also discovered that some equipment such as computers and furniture that were included in the budget had not been purchased, which attracted attention from the Secretariat.
Government is currently probing districts over Ugx 2Bn PDM funds which was disbursed to implement PDM activities at the parish level across the country.
