Part 2: My Painful Long Journey To Motherhood

Hormonal imbalance is a menace and real; don’t be misled into thinking otherwise. As we continue with our long tale to motherhood, we delve in this.

Hearing the doctor say sorry, we have nothing else to do for you, but we have to remove the baby, I went into shock, those were not very easy words to hear and process at the moment, given the fact that I had been on hormonal treatment for a year to conceive.

I could not speak, all I kept on saying in my mind was God why me, whatever was being discussed and said at the moment about my next fate did not register, my husband calmly sat next to me and said we have to do this, it is for your own good, he said he hated it too but it was for the best.

“I hate that we have to go through this, but it is God’s will, be strong and have faith that you will one day be a mother, but in order to experience that, allow the doctors to do their best,” my husband said.

However, I refused and asked that we give a call to the doctor who had been treating me for hormonal imbalance to seek her opinion, and then whatever she decided we would go by that. I had developed a lot of trust in her that I cared about her opinion the most.

My husband shared with the attending doctor and they called her, she asked to be given 30 minutes to get to the hospital and asked why she had not been informed earlier, she got to us in about 20 minutes, examined me and ordered a scan and some tests. The scan revealed that the uterus was slightly open.

After reviewing the scan and other test results, she believed she could save the pregnancy and my life as well. She injected me with a hormonal drug that helped stabilize the pregnancy after one hour and the bleeding stopped.

“With God’s help I think I can save this baby, but will need you to think positive and pray, we are trained to treat, but God saves,” the Doctor said.

She however, set up tough conditions to be followed, if I wanted to be a mother;

· Be hospitalized till due date

· No sex for the remaining period till delivery

· No doing house work.

· No carrying heavy weights till due date

· Feed mainly on milk and bogoya (Yellow banana)

Hormones are chemicals produced by glands in the endocrine system that tell your cells, tissues, and organs what to do. Hormones help regulate many important functions in the body.
