Total Energies, one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies, has announced that over 8,000 Ugandans have been employed in the successful Tilenga Oil Project.
Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration and Production at Total Energies, made this significant announcement during a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House-Entebbe on Monday, April 23, 2024.
Terraz, who recently visited the oil exploration sites under the Tilenga project, updated President Museveni on the progress made so far and sought additional support to ensure the project’s continued success. In his briefing, Terraz expressed his satisfaction with the advancements in drilling and pipeline activities at the Tilenga site.
“I visited the sites at Tilenga and the pipeline. The drilling and pipeline activities are going on very well,” stated Terraz.
President Museveni warmly welcomed Terraz to Uganda and assured him of the government’s unwavering support in achieving the project’s objectives. The President recognized the importance of the Tilenga Oil Project in driving economic growth and development in Uganda, emphasizing the government’s commitment to its success.
During the meeting, Terraz was accompanied by several other high-ranking Total Energies officials, including Mike Sangster, the Senior Vice President Africa, Philippe Groueix, the General Manager of Total Energies Exploration and Production Uganda, Martin Tiffen, the Managing Director of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), and Mariam Nampeera, the Deputy General Manager of Total Energies Exploration and Production Uganda.
Notable government officials present at the meeting included Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Matia Kasaijja, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
The Tilenga project, operated by Total Energies, is a significant venture that involves the development of six oil fields and the drilling of approximately 400 wells across 31 different locations. The extracted oil will be transported through a 1,443-kilometer underground pipeline to the Tanzanian port of Tanga.
