Security authority in Gulu City has arrested more than 70 street gang members suspected to be behind the increased cases of theft and attacks on local residents at night.

Jane Frances Amongin Okili, the Gulu City Resident Commissioner said the operation stemmed from various complaints by the community regarding the prevailing security situation within the area.

“We have embarked on joint daily patrols by UPDF and Police to crack down notorious street gangs in Gulu City (Aguu street children). 70 of them will be arraigned before courts,” RCC Amongin said.

This is the first time the group is arrested in large number according to sources.

She notes that the operation shall continue until security sanity is restored within Gulu City.
