Uganda Police has urged the public to be vigilant as the new month of December, which is the beginning of the festive season, sets in.
According to SSP Claire Nabakka, the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Uganda Police, the police anticipate festivities, parties, religious celebrations, Christmas, and the New Year, which will pull crowds.
“We therefore have to put strategic plans in place to secure these events amidst threats of violent attacks,” Nabakka said.
She noted that incidents of organised crime like robberies, murders, and burglaries still remain a concern urging citizens to stay vigilant.
Nabakka applauded the UPDF for the successful arrest of two suspects in the killing of the students at Lhubiriha High School, Mpondwe, and the attacks on the tourists in Queen Elizabeth National Park who were put out of action inside the DRC during the ongoing operations.
“Uganda enjoyed a peaceful week due to heightened security at border points,” she stated.
She urged the public to report suspicious persons, activities, or unattended items, especially while travelling, adding that they should practice a collective responsibility for safety by remaining vigilant and reporting any concerns to the nearest police station.
