Mr. Geoffrey Sseremba, the Under Secretary for Finance and Administration in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), has handed himself to the Anti-Corruption Court to answer charges of abuse of office.

According to authorities, Sseremba is accused of causing a UGX 4.4 billion loss to the government by approving various funds for different OPM offices without proper paper work.

Sseremba has been on the run following the recent raid by the IGG, where six senior officials at the OPM were arrested over different corruption related scandals which resulted in the loss of billions of shillings.

According to the Inspector General of Government (IGG), the said money was meant for implementing peace initiative programs in the Karamoja region.

Last week, IGG arrested six officials from OPM and later charged them before the Anti-Corruption Court.

The charged officials include Masigazi Deogratious, the Under Secretary for Pacification and Development; Abaho Joshua, the Senior Assistant Secretary; Asasira Barbara, the Principal Assistant Secretary; Tonny Ameny Emmy, the Assistant Commissioner Programme Officer; Peter Amodoi, the Programme Officer; and Samuel Ofungi, the Senior Assistant Secretary at the OPM.
