The Office of the Prime Minister has paid a total of five hundred thousand shillings to a student of Budo SS as compensation for his suitcase that was damaged by the errant driver from the office of the Prime Minister on February 5, 2023.

The driver, whose identify was established as  Steven Aipikor, reportedly knocked and damaged a suitcase carrying several scholastic materials of the student.

According to a statement issued by the PS Office of the Prime Minister, Keith Muhakanizi, the payment is to comfort the student and express their apology over what he termed a “disorderly act” by the driver.

Muhakanizi condemned the incident and assured that disciplinary measures had already been taken against the driver.

“This incident was highly regrettable, and as an institution, we have already taken measures to bring the culprit to justice,” Muhakanizi said in a statement.

Adding that, as the OPM, they shall endeavour to remain a coordinated, responsive, and accountable institution for social and economic transformation.

This followed an uproar on social media by a section of Ugandans who cried for justice for the student after pictures of the accident were posted on various social media platforms.

Steven Aipikor, a driver attached to the OPM, was driving the State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Ms. Jennifer Kacha Namuyangu, with the registration number UG 0915Z when he rammed into the student’s suitcase while returning to school at that time.

Before speeding off, the driver threw Shs. 10,000 note at the student and drove off.
