NWSC Embarks on Senior Staff Training to Embrace Patriotism

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has embarked on a training of its staff to embrace and promote Patriotism.

The second lot of the NWSC drawn from the Kampala area are currently undergoing a three week patriotic training in Entebbe. 

The training is being conducted in close partnership with the Uganda People’s Defense Forces.

Several senior Commanders of the UPDF including the Defense Spokesperson,  Brig Felix Kulayige among others have so far delivered lectures to the trainees.

NWSC believes that a well trained workforce is the cornerstone of improved service delivery. 

This has been demonstrated by prioritizing Skilling and workforce development as a key strategic priority area in the Corporations NWSC Corporate plan (2021-2024). 

Staff including Commercial assistants, commercial officers, Engineers, Finance and Accounts Officers and Managers are soon completing a 3-week induction program that is currently done in Entebbe kawuku-Bugiri at Scripture union campsite. 

Eng Dr. Silver Mugisha the Managing Director NWSC on talking to the staff undertaking training, he emphasized the importance of the training and encouraged staff not to be afraid on the Restructuring that is being done in the corporation.

“At the start of the training when this program was starting last year in October, a large number of people misunderstood, many thought it was a mean of getting rid of some employees, which wasn’t true”. Said the MD.

“The objective of the training is centered on Training people in patriotism and know the country we live, challenges we have been through as a country”. Added the MD.

The corporation customer Base in the last 8 years was 300,000 customer reconnections and currently we are on 800,000 Reconnections and expect to hit 1.2m customer target in the next 5 years.

According to the close sources, Some Staffs were asking for an increase in their salary per scales since some had served the corporation to close 30 years but on a junior scales.

On addressing the students, the General Manager-kampala water, Mr. Lutaaya Muhamood openly told staff on conditions of scale reconsidering which either performance, promotion or upgrading academically.

He Advised staff to live the vision of NWSC- To be the leading customer Service Oriented utility in the world.

Non-Revenue water currently is at 37% the target is to reduce to at least 33% in the next 5 years.

Brig General Felix Kulayigye who earlier on met the soon graduating students  

On Monday, Brig General Felix Kulayige-the UPDF spokesperson on addressing the students, he rallied staff  on Brand Recognition and loyalty, through the media, the deception narrative can be displaced and public Perception about NWSC change hence attitude change to Nationalism and patriotism. 

The course has registered success in Mindset change and introduced many to their country Uganda and the challenges that the country has gone through before and after independence. 

The pass-out is expected to be on 28th February 2022 and the Managing Director NWSC is expected to be the guest of honor.

Staff are encouraged to be ambitious towards promoting Patriotism and National water and Sewerage Corporation wherever we go.

The first intake were 46 engineers and 139 water technicians and as part of the program, the engineers underwent a patriotism training facilitated by the UPDF on 29th October 2021.
