NUP Power Crisis Deepens As Their Head of Policy Throws In Towel

Mary Sserumaga who has been the head of the Policy team in National Unity Platform (NUP) earlier this  week submitted her resignation letter from the party position, citing insolence  and poor communication with the top leadership.

Sserumaga has been leading a team of more than ten people who have been drawing strategies for the party.

The policy team since December 2020 complained of investing a lot of time designing a manifesto for which the Party flag bearer then, Robert Kyagulanyi should have followed but disregarded while campaigning, but instead focused on singing songs for those that attended his campaign launch.

The team complained of never being consulted or tasked for further assignments in drawing the party’s strategic positions on different matters hence  making them irrelevant.

Upon such background, Sserumaga says she decided to tender in her resignation letter.

In June 2020, Serumaga was appointed to head the Policy team by Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi. She then joined the team of David Lewis Rubongoya, Joel Ssenyonyi, Dr. Lina Zedriga and Dr Roy Ssemboga as key leaders in the Party.

Sserumaga says she couldn’t stand being undermined by the top leadership who have  frequently disregarded her team’s advisory on key party developments.

Sserumaga says during the launch of the NUP manifesto in Mbarara, the National Unity Platform ran short of space to carry the policy team during the launch of the manifesto Sserumaga and her team had drafted.

She laments that her team submitted a work plan for the year 2021 just after the election period but until now, there hasn’t been any response from the Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.

“I resigned from that position. I couldn’t stand that disrespect anymore”, Sserumaga said.

A source at Kamwokya intimated this reporter that the resignation of Sserumaga left many angered by the increasing number of resignations from the party which has seemingly become a trend.

Her resignation comes in the wake of numerous financial and intrigue wrangles that are tearing the party top leadership apart.

The head of the diaspora desk, Spartan Achilles Mukagyi resigned from the position early last month, followed by numerous resignations.

The previous resignations have all been centred on same factors such as intrigue, insubordination,  money rivalries among others.
