The current split among National Unity Platform Party legislators has remained tense after it was confirmed that some Members of Parliament elected on NUP tickets have clandestinely been transacting with the ruling NRM party.

This was confirmed by Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the NUP party deputy spokesman during a political talk show called “Namwatulira” on Pearl FM.

Waiswa said his fellow party MPs normally sneak into Entebbe State House at night to hold negotiations with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, unfortunately on matters of their individual benefits.

According to Mufumbiro, NUP MPs approached the Speaker of Parliament, requesting that she organise a meeting with the President, citing lack of seriousness and selfishness within their own NUP.

According to a source, the MPs also want to plead with the head of state to allow a member who retires from being the Leader of the Opposition to retain their privileges.

Mufumbiro has trashed this claim, adding that the NUP top leadership is aware of how MP Mathias Mpuga is closely negotiating to extend his term of office as LoP.

He said that Mpuuga has also waged a fight against Bobi Wine by lobbying through the speaker to meet the president.
