The National Social Security Fund has extended the mass voluntary registration drive by 60 more days. The communication comes less than 10 days before the end of the grace period for the initial registration.
The registration drive, dubbed “Now you can,” calls on all Ugandan employers, regardless of the number of employees they have, to register their employees.
According to Mr. Patrick Ayota, the Acting Managing Director of NSSF, a number of employers have asked that the grace period be extended, and in the spirit of cooperation, they extended the registration by 2 months.
“The deadline for the registration has been confirmed for June 28, 2023,” Ayota said.
As part of the initiative, the Minister for Gender, Labor, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, accompanied by top NSSF management, toured the Fine Spinners facility in Bugolobi, interacted with workers, and recognized NSSF’s need to work harder than they have before if they are to hit their target by 2025.
Mr. Ayota confirmed that NSSF has established partnerships with most government agencies to ensure that employers regularize their status before they do business, and they are establishing partnerships with all regulatory agencies to ensure that before any entity is given a license, they have a clearance certificate from NSSF that proves their compliance.
NSSF’s target is to increase savers coverage from the current 2 million to 15 million by 2025.
Since the launch of the mass exercise three weeks ago, over 1468 employers have so far registered.
