A notorious Ugandan conman one Fred Frank Ssendi who has been defrauding Ugandans under the guise of taking them abroad for employment has survived lynching from irate victims.
According to victims, Ssendi had informed his victims that he resides in Dubai and that he had recruited many people on behalf of several companies, only to dupe and con them.
He gets money from innocent Ugandans promising them jobs. Just like other con men, after obtaining money from his victims, Frank starts playing hide and seek leaving his victims mixed up and shocked.
Close friends say Ssendi is a former staff of MTN Uganda and was laid off because of several theft cases.
He was accused of conniving with some fellow staffs to sniff fuel from company generators and sometimes cars.
Laying him off launched him to his new career of conning innocent Ugandans in South Africa where he became a sangoma (traditional witch doctor) but later relocated to Dubai after scamming several people.
While there, he worked as a security guard in one company before being fired last year after scamming several Ugandans on visit visas as he promised them fake jobs within the company and issuing them bogus offer letters.
Upon his termination he managed to secure another security job where he only worked for 4months, he then again duped a few Ugandans within the company and later got fired.
As they say, a thief has 40 days, Frank’s days surely came to an end and was last week nabbed by a few of those Ugandans on visit visa most of whom are by now already in over stay.
They disciplined him thoroughly and they need him to pay them up to 40 million shillings that he’s said to have scammed from them all in the name of issuing them juicy jobs in UAE.
Ugandans wishing to travel abroad should be vigilant to avoid falling into victims of con men like Ssendi.
Those looking for employment abroad should use licensed external labor recruitment companies for easy tracking and accountability by government.
The Abu Dhabi Police also recently informed job-seekers to be cautious about online scammers, who are now taking advantage of major events happening in the UAE to claim they are offering jobs at these events.
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has licensed over 108 private companies for labor export. This was done to ensure that Ugandans follow the right procedures for their own protection.
