Notorious ADF Commander “Baghdad” Killed in Joint UPDF-FARDC Operation

In an operation by the joint Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces together with Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo code-named “Shujaa,” put out of action a notorious commander of the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group known as ‘Baghdad’.

In a statement issued on Friday April 5th,2024 by UPDF, stated that the forces’ mobile squad under the 3rd Mountain Battalion, operating together with FARDC troops, killed ‘Baghdad’ in the area of Ambusire, Northwest of Tingwe, 16.5 km from Elengeti Town in Ituri province.

According to Maj Bilal Katamba, the UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa Spokesperson, Baghdad was put out of action on Thursday, April 4th in an operation by the joint Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces/Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the ongoing Operation code-named “Shujaa.”

“In the operation, one sub-machine gun with two magazines, 31 rounds of ammunition, one grenade, and one military radio (walkie-talkie) were also recovered,” Maj Katamba said.

Katamba further added that, the joint forces continue to hunt and mount pressure on the remnants of the ADF that split into small groups to evade the UPDF/FARDC’s consistent and constant attacks.

He said that, Military intelligence reported that the deceased ADF commander hailed from Kyazanga, greater Masaka, in Southwestern Uganda.

Katamba further notified that after flushing out the ADF from Mwalika Valley in North Kivu in the last half of 2023, a reasonable number of the ADF remnants moved Northwest of Beni-Kamanda road in the general areas of Mambasa.
