The president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Hassim Magogo, has said they are not ready to issue licenses to any club that does not meet the minimum club licensing requirements.
“We will not care if the club is big or comes from a particular region; we won’t issue it with a license if it doesn’t meet the club licensing requirements,” Magogo said.
Magogo also revealed that some clubs have kept a deaf ear to the issue of licenses, yet the process is coming to an end.
“The process is almost ending, but some clubs seem to be relaxed. We just don’t want to have a Kyetume scenario when it defaulted on the licensing process,” he said.
Clubs must complete final submissions of all physical documentation for all the club licensing core process minimum requirements and have a minimum of eighteen players approved on the system, of which two are goalkeepers, according to FUFA Ugandan Premier League (UPL) and FUFA Big League (FBL). The process has a July 17, 2023 deadline..
According to Magogo, club licensing is an International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) rule that is implemented by respective federations.
“A team is assessed on five parameters, which include sports, governance, infrastructure, and finance, among others,” Magogo said.
Other licensing requirements and information;
Clubs that qualify for the UPL and FBL on sporting merit must obtain a FUFA club license to participate in the football competitions.
A license expires without prior notice at the end of the season for which it was issued. A license cannot be transferred.
A license may be withdrawn by the licensor’s decision-making bodies if any of the conditions for the issuing of a license are no longer satisfied or the licensee violates any of its obligations under the FUFA club licensing regulations.
