Nakasero market vendors in Kampala have denounced the march to parliament protests, claiming they have businesses to run and families to feed.
Richard Mukiibi, the chairperson of Nakasero market vendors on Thursday, July 25, 2024, said they opted to make money to sustain their livelihoods as opposed to marching on the streets.
“We shall not tolerate or get involved in any protests. This is a place where people come to make a living,” he noted.
Harriet Nankya, another vendor, said they survive on their businesses and with the huge responsibilities left at home.
“If protests broke out here, we would not be able to make a living for ourselves, and our goods would be damaged. We have families to take care of. There are better ways to present these issues to the government,” said Nankya.
This comes after the march to parliament protests were foiled on July 23, 2024. On Thursday, the planners the planners resumed the second phase of the protest.
