President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) to actively spread the message of wealth creation throughout the country. Speaking at his farm in Kisozi in Gomba District, the President emphasized the importance of adopting a money economy and generating household incomes to lift Ugandans out of poverty.
The President’s call was made during an event where he hosted the leadership of the three arms of Government and the Cabinet on May 25, 2024. The purpose of the gathering was to reaffirm the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) commitment to a wealth creation strategy that has already shown promising results.
President Museveni shared his experiences in the fight against poverty, dating back to the 1960s when he advocated for settled agriculture in the Ankole sub-region. Encouraging cattle keepers to transition from nomadism to dairy farming, he witnessed the Ankole people embracing his message. As a result, success in poverty reduction spread along the entire cattle corridor, benefiting areas such as Isingiro, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Lyantonde, Sembabule, Gomba, Kyakwanzi, Kiboga, Ngoma, and Masindi.
“These initiatives aimed at generating household incomes and lifting people out of poverty have demonstrated great success in the nine villages of Gomba and Sembabule districts,” the President stated in a social media post.
He further urged leaders to disseminate this strategy across the entire nation, emphasizing the importance of getting people out of poverty and into the money economy.
Following the meeting at Kisozi Farm, President Museveni and his Ministers held a public rally at Kisozi Primary School in Gomba District. During the rally, beneficiaries of the NRM’s wealth creation drive shared their success stories, highlighting how their household incomes have significantly improved.
Prominent leaders who attended the event included Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robina Nabbaja, as well as various ministers and MPs. Their presence at the farm underscores the government’s commitment to promoting wealth creation and commercial agriculture as integral components of Uganda’s economic development.
This visit to President Museveni’s farm is not an isolated event. The President has previously welcomed government officials and leaders to witness firsthand the practical applications of his wealth-creation initiatives. Critics argue that these visits serve as demonstrations of the President’s commitment to promoting commercial agriculture and other strategies aimed at improving Uganda’s economic landscape.
