Museveni Pledges Shs500Million Support, Coaster Bus to Luwero Mothers Union

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to offer the sum of Shs500 million in support and one Coaster Bus to Luwero Mothers Union to support their operations.

The President was closing the three-day Buganda Mothers Union Conference (Anglican Church) held at Timnah School in Luwero on Sunday, September 1st, 2024.

Museveni also rallied the Mothers Union to support the government’s poverty alleviation policies, which aim to improve household livelihoods.
Held under the theme “Let’s work hard and not covet,” President Museveni urged mothers to invest in income-generating enterprises.

“I’m impressed that the Mothers Union has awakened the Christians to work for prosperity and also ask them to embrace government wealth initiatives, which include the Parish Development Model and Emyooga,” Museveni said.

However, Museveni also implored the Mothers Union to join government efforts to ensure all children stay in school.

He criticized the misconception that Christianity equates to accepting poverty, stating that true Christian values involve proactive efforts to improve one’s circumstances.

Speaking at the same ceremony, First Lady Janet Museveni highlighted the critical role of mothers in nurturing their families and communities.

She urged mothers to take responsibility for their households and announced initiatives aimed at transforming all Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools into day schools, encouraging mothers to provide lunches to their children to help reduce teenage pregnancies.

The conference served as a platform for women to brainstorm on challenges and explore ways to lead purposeful lives with integrity, reinforcing the community’s commitment to development and empowerment.
