On Sunday, January 5, 2025,the Cheif of Defence Forces (CDF) Muhoozi Kainerugaba, through his X account, exposed the National Unity Platform party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, as a government project that was fronted to neutralize Kizza Besigye’s opposition popularity.
The general’s revelation confirmed the earlier predictions by a section of Ugandans that Bobi Wine’s actions are not those of a serious opposition politician. Many have always wondered why he concentrates on pulling down other opposition politicians instead of uniting them as the head of the leading opposition party.
“It was actually our idea (me and other generals). We convinced Mzee that we can use Kabobi to remove Besigye from being the kingpin of the opposition. After we supported him with a lot of money (and he succeeded), he started abusing us,” Muhoozi wrote.
In several media addresses, Bobi Wine has been seen belittling politicians like Katumba John, blaming Kizza Besigye for failing to remove President Museveni, and directly attacking leaders within his own party, the National Unity Platform, accusing them of being moles.Ideally, Bobi Wine has spent all his opposition political life fighting fellow opposition politicians.
Muhoozi’s revelation further confirmed the rumors that had spread like wildfire that Bobi Wine, along with many NUP Members of Parliament, received money from the National Resistance Movement party to aid them in their campaigns.The mission to neutralize Kizza Besigye in opposition indeed worked, but the decision by Bobi Wine to abuse and insult those who fed him clearly shows how ungrateful and cold-hearted he is.
Following Muhoozi’s exposure, Bobi Wine panicked and held an impromptu press briefing on Monday, January 6, at the party headquarters, attempting to deflect attention. However, his efforts are largely ineffective, as Ugandans are now more aware of the type of politician he is.
Bobi Wine has always exhibited the highest level of hypocrisy, double standards, and lack of focus politically. Muhoozi’s revelation has opened the eyes of Ugandans and the few misguided NUP supporters.
It is time to reflect on how Bobi Wine has been conducting his politics of deception and understand that he is an untrustworthy politician whose aim is to mislead his supporters for selfish reasons.
No wonder when he convened the press conference, he talked about other things to divert his supporters but did not address the issue of how he is a project to fight Besigye; definitely the Katonga group will never forgive him too.The revelations again raise concerns about whether Uganda has genuine opposition or not. It is time for Ugandans to watch out for conmen and scammers in the name of opposition politicians.
