The Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze (NUP) is the latest top opposition politician to join Ugandans in mocking Eddy Mutwe, the chief bodyguard of the opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
In a ridiculing statement, MP Nambooze branded Mutwe as a pork rib eater whose expertise as the bodyguard only rotates around Lusaniya-pork with little or no skills to protect Kyagulanyi.
Her statement stemmed from the video clip on social media showing how Mutwe fled at a terrific speed faster than the tear gas canister, which Kyagulanyi claimed had injured his left leg during a clash with the police in Bulindo, Kira Municipality.
She questioned Mutwe’s abilities as a bodyguard, whether he can protect Kyagulanyi or has been compromised.
Mutwe’s cowardly act has sparked concerns, with many claiming he could have been the one who threw the canister that injured Kyagulanyi.
“As a bodyguard, he failed at his duties; he didn’t provide adequate protection during the Bulindo incident. We all saw him running away faster than lightning; what kind of a real well-trained bodyguard does that?” Namboze questioned.
She went on to say that such incidences of the bodyguard abandoning the principal only happen when he has been compromised or when he was the chief planner of the incident to avoid being caught in the crossfire, and that is indeed what Mutwe, as Bobi Wine’s chief bodyguard, did.
“At first sight, you see a well-built and dressed-to-kill bodyguard who sends chills down your spine, but in reality, he is just a well-built scarecrow master capable of varnishing in thin air at the slightest provocation. What a waste of attire; you would rather look malnourished but effective on the job,” Namboze noted.
A section of Ugandans on social media now suspect that Mutwe could be a two-faced bodyguard to Kyagulanyi.
The incident at Bulindo has sparked debate over the competency and preparedness of Mutwe given his reactions to leaving Bobi Wine during the clash.
Observers have demanded a closer examination of Bobi Wine’s safety under Mutwe since details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but initial reports suggest that the bodyguard’s response may have been inadequate, prompting calls for a more skilled security team.
