Moroto: Joint Security Forces on Standby Following Warning by Turkana Warriors to Attack Police Post

The joint security forces in Moroto are on standby after they received information that Turkana warriors have teamed up with the Karamojong warriors in an attempt to attack the Nakiloro police post.

This was revealed by SCP Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson, during the security presser at the police headquarters in Naguru.

The attack threats come after a gun used to murder a police officer was confiscated by the police to assist in a murder investigation.

According to Enanga, Apule Lowot, a Karamajong warrior, shot dead police constable Songoku Bazilio after he attempted to kill his wife, who had sought refuge at the police post.

“About one and a half weeks ago, we lost a security officer, Songoku Bazilio, who was shot dead by a Karamong warrior identified as Apule Lowot. It so happens that the warrior Apule Lowot had a domestic misunderstanding with his wife Veronica Ariama, aged 20, and he went ahead to hire a gun to eliminate his wife,” Enanga said.

“Luckily, the wife went and took refuge at a police post in Nakiloro, which is found in Moroto. This is something that angered him, and it is against that background that he turned the gun against our police constable,” Enanga added.

Enanga further noted that the Turkana warriors have teamed up with the family of Apule, the Karamajong warrior, to recover the gun he lost while he also attempted to shoot the son of the late Songoku.

“The late Songoku was moving together with his son, who also managed to fight off the warrior who abandoned the gun. He picked up the gun and ran with it up to the Nakiloro police post. So the information we have is that they are allegedly Turkana warriors who are teaming up with the relatives of Lowot to attack the police station and recover the illegal gun that was recovered and which is now exhibited as a murder weapon. So we already have reinforced our police officers,” he added.

Enanga stated that personnel from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) headquarters are on standby together with sister forces from the UPDF in case there is an attempt made on the police post at Nakiloro.
