Mityana Police Investigate Aggravated Child Trafficking Case

Territorial police in Mityana are actively investigating a case of aggravated trafficking in children that occurred on November 7, 2023.

Rachael Kawala, the police spokesperson for the Wamala region, stated in a statement on November 18, 2023, that Bakajjube Zaverio, a 46-year-old man who lives in Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana District, reported the incident as a disappearance at Namukoozi Police Post on November 7, 2023, at 1827/c.

According to Kawala, Bakajjube Zaverio’s granddaughter, Nanyondo Sharifa, a 3-year-old girl and daughter of Kiyemba Ismail and Nankinga Betty, disappeared on November 7, 2023, at Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division in Mityana district.

“The child was last seen in the company of a neighbour, identified as Najemba Hamidah, playing with her maid. An investigation was conducted, and the maid was arrested to assist in the ongoing investigation,” said Kawala.

She stated that Nakimera, the maid to Najjemba Hamidah, who had been in the area for only two days, may have trafficked the victim, and preliminary findings suggest that the suspect hails from the areas of Banda in Mityana District.

Search efforts are underway to recover the victim and apprehend the suspect. Anyone with information leading to the recovery of the victim and the arrest of the suspect is urged to call the toll-free number 0800300118 or report to the nearest police station.
