Masindi Health Centre Construction Contractor Tasked to Re-do Work

Joachim Uganda limited, a construction company in charge of the construction of a Health Centre three in Nyantozi sub-county in Masindi district has been ordered by district authorities to demolish the shoddy foundation it had constructed and reconstruct it.

This followed resolutions made in the meeting held on 1st march 2023 which involved local leaders, residents and contractors.

During the meeting, locals monitoring government projects raised concerns about the cracks that had already developed  in the foundation to the district leaders who concluded by tasking the contractor to redo the work.

There were cracks which were visibly seen by even those like us who are not technical. The quality of the bricks was poor,” Geoffrey Achili in charge Nyantozi health centre three said.

Sunday Yotu the Lc1 chairperson said that the sand was not compressed well in the foundation according to the required standards.

“Together with locals, chairperson LC 5 and the RDC came to an understanding that the entire work should be repeated if we are to have value for money,”  Yotu stated.

According to Edward Mbihebwa Executive Director community Driven Network Uganda, the resident’s involvement in monitoring the government project is as a result of empowerment skills imparted by a local civil society organization.

“We trained local community monitors whose prime role is to monitor government projects in local areas and this time round we are focused on the health sector in order to improve on the service delivery,” Mbihebwa  said.

According to Masindi district leaders, government is investing more than 239 million in the construction of Nyantozi health centre three and intends to upgrade it to a Health Centre Four after the construction.
