An attack on the Marriott hotel reservations systems has affected over 500 million people who have used the system since 2004.

Payment details of people including credit cards and personal information was affected.

A statement from the chain has informed us that affected people will be contacted via Email and during the process no personal information will be solicited. The chain will also offer one year fraud check and protection to the affected people.

The hack only affected hotels that didn’t use the Marriott name on the brand such as Sheraton.

Marriott runs a number of affiliate hotels in Uganda including protea hotels, Skyz Naguru and Sheraton.

It is not readily available how many Ugandans are affected but it ought to be considerable since it runs the more popular chains in the country.
