Maj. Gen. Takirwa Urges Troops to Properly Maintain New Housing Units

The Deputy Commander of Land Forces, Major General Francis Takirwa, has advised troops of the Field Artillery Division to jealously protect and maintain the newly constructed housing units in the Division by putting into practice the best living standards.

Maj. Gen. Takirwa made the remarks as he commissioned forty-eight (48) housing units in the Field Artillery Division on November 27, 2023, at Masindi Barracks.

He informed troops that the president, who is also the Commander-in-Chief, has always desired to construct thirty thousand (30,000) housing units in a phased manner so that every soldier is accorded decent accommodation.

Takirwa also advised the UPDF officers to use alternative sources of energy to conserve the environment.

“I implore you to use alternative means of cooking like gas, which is environmentally friendly and healthy, and avoid using charcoal and firewood, Takirwa said.

He advised the Division leadership to make sure every soldier plants a tree to support the fight against environmental degradation.

He cautioned the soldiers to live within their means and avoid statuses they can’t sustain, which results in indiscipline cases.

The Deputy Commander of the Field Artillery Division, Col. Polly Ouma, thanked the UPDF leadership for the initiative of constructing houses for soldiers, especially the Field Artillery Division.

The commissioning was attended by commanding officers, heads of department, officers, and men of the Field Artillery Division.
