The Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa has emphasized the value of discipline, endurance, and dedication as qualities that troops must maintain throughout their military careers.

Maj. Gen. Takirwa was on Monday, August 5, 2024, presiding over the pass-out ceremony of UPDF soldiers who had completed a three-month refresher course at the 4th Infantry Division Training School in Palaro Sub-county, Gulu district.

He said a soldier’s discipline is the cornerstone for encouraging positive attitudes and behavior in contact with superiors, the community, and peers as well.

“I am happy with your field performance and drills that you have exhibited during the pass out. I am impressed and satisfied that the skills attained will be put to good use during the execution of your duties,” said Maj. Gen. Takirwa.

He urged the soldiers to practice fiscal responsibility by emphasizing the significant returns, increased dividends, and real profits that would result from increasing their savings and stock in the UPDF’s Wazalendo SACCO.

Brig. Gen. Felix Busizoori, the Commander of the UPDF 4th Division, commended the soldiers for their outstanding self-control, selflessness, and perseverance during their training.

He advised the soldiers to plan for retirement by practicing financial discipline, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and staying physically fit.

The acting commandant of the training school, Maj. Justin Olupot Malinga stated that the soldiers were equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ideology to command and lead troops in all circumstances.

Members of Parliament, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers of the UPDF, and community members were present during the event.
