Maj. Gen. Kyanda Emphasises Importance of Logistics in Supporting UPDF

During a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Major General Leopold Kyanda stressed the Chieftaincy of Logistics and Engineering’s vital role in supporting the Ugandan Peoples’ (UPDF) Defence Forces.

“Our operations revolve around logistics as their core,” Maj. Gen. Kyanda stated.

He emphasised how vital the Chieftaincy of Logistics and Engineering is to the UPDF’s ability to conduct both military and non-combative operations.

Brig. Gen. Godwin Karugaba succeeded Brig. Gen. Charles Bakahumura as the new Chief of Logistics and Engineering, following a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters, Mbuya.

He advised Brig. Gen. Karugaba to get ready for the difficult work that lies ahead.

Brig Gen Bakahumura served for seven years, and Maj Gen Kyanda appreciated his contributions to bettering UPDF welfare and logistics management.

Brig. Gen. Bakahumura thanked the Commander-in-Chief and the UPDF leadership for their trust and support throughout his tenure.

He also highlighted the improvements made under his leadership, such as increased operational efficiency and better soldier welfare.

Brig. Gen. Karugaba’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Chieftaincy of Logistics and Engineering, and his leadership will be critical in maintaining and developing the UPDF’s logistical capabilities.

From 2012 to 2017, he was the Chief of Military Intelligence before being appointed as the Chief of Logistics and Engineering, a position he held for seven years, making him the longest-serving Chief in that role.
