Lukwago Vows to Sue FDC Najjanankumbi for Embezzling Party Resources

The interim leadership of the opposition breakaway (Katonga) faction has threatened to sue the Forum for Democratic Change party (Najjanankumbi) over party assets.

Erias Lukwago, the interim leader of the Katonga Group, says the FDC leadership should account for the assets. He also accused them of embezzling the party funds and confiscating its properties and assets for personal interests.

Lukwago said this during the launch of the signature collection for the registration of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), an intended political party for the Katonga faction that is parallel to and opposed to the FDC leadership at Najjanankumbi.

“We are still FDC until the law decides otherwise, so nobody should mistake that and assume you can misuse the party assets and walk away with it. We are initiating a legal cause, and the Najjanankumbi leadership must account for party resources,” Lukwago said.

His revelation follows Jack Sabiiti’s remarks in which he vowed to block the Katonga faction from returning to the main group at Najjanankumbi referring to them as traitors and time wasters.
Lukwago and the Katonga faction accused the Najjanankumbi group of political intrigue, corruption, incompetence, and covertly working with the ruling party.

He says this has caused internal party divisions, resulting in the formation of parallel and hostile groups, as well as attempts to dissolve the party.

The Court on August 13, 2024, declared Wasswa Birigwa (Katonga faction) as the lawful FDC party national chairperson.

Since then, the Katonga faction led by the National Chairperson, Wasswa Birigwa, held a National Delegates Conference, and all agreed to dissolve the party and form a new political party. They have been calling upon the FDC Najjanankumbi leadership to hand over party records and pave the way for the new political formation.
