Local Government Leaders Trained on Manifesto Implementation at Kyankwanzi

Lt. Col. Emmy Katabazi, the Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organization lecturing Local Government leaders at Kyankwanzi

On April 27, 2023, Lt. Col. Emmy Katabazi, the Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), representing the Minister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda, passed out local government leaders from the greater eastern region following a one-week retreat where they were trained on the manifesto implementation of government projects.

According to Lt. Col. Katabazi, the President tasked ISO with investigating corruption and sexual harassment cases in the local governments.

“There are complaints that most chairmen, RDCs, and CAOs sexually abuse young women, promising them jobs in the district council; this will not be entertained,” said Lt. Col. Katabazi.

The trainees were also advised on environmental protection, mostly deforestation. They were tasked with taking shared responsibility for stopping charcoal burning and finding alternative energy for cooking, like the use of gas cylinders, which are cheaper than charcoal in the long run.

LT Col. Emmy Katabazi informed the trainees that ISO will be launching a software application to monitor the Parish Development Model activities. This application will help to determine the number of SACCOs formed and how the money will be run through these SACCOs. This will reduce corruption in the PDM scheme.

The trainees were tasked with combating corruption, protecting the environment, and putting the government manifesto into action for the welfare of Uganda and its people.
