Lingala Legend Awilo Longomba Arrives in Uganda Ahead of a Friday Performance

Legend Awilo Longomba famous for ‘Lingala” music is slated to arrive in Uganda today, ahead of performance on Friday 5th April.
He is expected together with his full band which will be performing at Kampala Serena Hotel, organised by Cents in partnership with Singleton and it is his first public concert in more than a decade.
The organizers have named the Ugandan acts who will be performing alongside the legend are; Levixone, dance hall queen Cindy and Jackie Chandiru for whom it will be her first major performance since her recovery. The concert will take place on April 5th show, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
An excited Jackie posted, “I will be jamming on the same stage with the legend, Awilo Longomba come April 5th at the Kampala Serena Hotel.” It is also roumoured that famous guitarist Chamour Mushaga will display his terrific guitar techniques at the show.
The 56-year-old Awilo Longomba’s music dominated Ugandan airwaves in the 2000’s. However he started his music career as a drummer in Viva La Musica band. He is popular for songs such as Coupe Bibamba, Gate le Coin, Modongo. He stopped the drums for the leading role in 1995.
His second CD, Coupe Bibamba (1998) made him known throughout Africa, Europe and America. This was followed by Kafou Kafou (2001) and an album, Mondongo (2004), which features Japponais, Dally Kimoko, Caen Madoka, Djudjuchet, Josky Kiambukuta and Simaro Lutumba. He is also credited as an atalaku (animateur) on some soukous records. Awilo now lives in London City, United Kingdom and is married to Paradis Kacharelle and they have a son called Lovy Believe Church Awilo Longomba.
