Late Gen. Tumwine laid to rest amidst gigantic eulogies

The body of the former Security Minister,  Gen. Elly Tumwine has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mukuru Village, Rwebikoma, Kazo district.

Senior government officials eulogized the fallen Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) General as a true patriot and a revolutionary nationalistic fellow. 

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, represented the government as  the Chief Mourner.

She described the deceased as a mentor to many in leadership and service above self.

According to PM Nabbanja, the deceased was an incredible person who always wished good for others.

“Gen Elly Tumwine was a patriot who wished good for others, and never spoke anything behind anyone,”She noted.

She says late Gen Tumwine was a straight  forward leader who would tell any issue direct to the concerned person in case of wrong, he was an open person.

“One time the late Tumwine called on me at the office, and he asked me how many cattle I had, and I told him 48, and he told me to have more not to a shame my position as a prime minister,” she recounted.

Other high-profile persons included senior security officers and politicians, Clergy, Members of Parliament, and Ministers among others.

Edna Tumwine, daughter of Gen. Elly Tumwine while recounting all the beautiful memories with her late father, told mourners how the fallen hero talked about forgiveness during his last moments on earth.

“Daddy talked about forgiveness during his last moments on earth,” Edna Tumwine said.

“I ask for forgiveness from all those my dad wronged and even those who wronged him, he forgave you. May we choose forgiveness and peace from now on,” she added.

Among the key mourners who attended his funeral were Gen Otafire Kahinda, Maj Gen (rtd) Jim Mwehezi, Gen Katumba Wamala, Dr. Chris Balyomunsi, Gen. MugishA Muntu, and members of the East Africa legislative Assembly.

General Elly Tumwine succumbed to lung cancer at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi aged 68 years.
