Kyambogo University Exposes Bobi Wine, Besigye’s Lies About Gov’t-Sponsored Students

Kyambogo University has exposed lies peddled by the opposition leaders Kiiza Besigye and Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, claiming that government-sponsored students at the institution are starving and begging in the Banda area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, via X, the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Eli Katunguka described the allegations made by Besigye and Bobi Wine as blatant lies aimed at spreading misinformation for political gain.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that all government-sponsored students at the university have received their full allowances and are being well taken care of, contrary to the lies that were being spread by the two opposition figures and their affiliated media outlets.

“All government students have been paid all their allowances due to them,” Katunguka stated, adding that “it is very unfortunate that these political leaders and their fake media outlets have chosen the path of propaganda and misinformation to achieve their own goals.”

The allegations first surfaced earlier this week when Dr. Kiiza Besigye, a former presidential candidate and prominent opposition leader, along with Bobi Wine, took to social media claiming that government-sponsored students at Kyambogo were experiencing severe food shortages and were forced to beg for survival.

However, the university has responded swiftly, providing evidence of the timely disbursement of allowances to all eligible students. The institution also emphasized that students have continued to receive adequate support from both the government and the university administration.

The issue has exposed the continued spread of misinformation by opposition figures in Uganda for political gains.
