The Head of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Secretariat in the Office of the President Maj. Martha Asiimwe has condemned the misuse of public funds meant for Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries in Kotido district.
Maj Asiimwe made the call on January 7, 2024 while speaking to leaders in Kotido where she called out individuals who misuse public resources to benefit relatives, friends, and close associates
“These funds are meant for everyone, not for personal networks and the misuse not only undermines the intended purpose of these funds but also affects the beneficiaries who rely on them for essential services and support,” Maj Asiimwe warned.
“Ugandans, Corruption must end and Accountability must prevail,” She added.
Maj Asiimwe reminded officials how public funds are sacred, intended to uplift the poor and vulnerable, not to fund personal extravagance.
She highlighted that some officials have been distributing only 500,000 shillings to recipients of the PDM funds instead of the full amount allocated for their support and reminded them of the Presidentive directives.
In regions like Karamoja, where corruption is often a taboo topic, she stressed the need for leaders to speak out. “Silence emboldens the corrupt,” she warned, urging leaders to confront misuse despite the risk of isolation.
As the festive season winds down, Maj. Asiimwe called for vigilance, urging all stakeholders to ensure the funds serve their rightful
Asiimwe’s statements come amid ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and service delivery in government projects, emphasizing the need for transparency in the management of public resources.
