The Ministry of Local Government has handed over 215 tablets to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) leadership as part of efforts to enhance the parish development model (PDM) implementation through improved data collection, monitoring, and supervision.
According to Denis Galabuzi Ssozi, the PDM National Coordinator, in a statement to the media on January 7, 2025, the tablets will improve the performance of KCCA officials and stakeholders in executing the initiative, enhancing the institution’s ability to carry out PDM activities that bring significant benefits to the people.
“I am glad to report that as we speak today, we have so far captured data of 86,538 households, which is impressive, but I’m even sure that it shall even get better. I’d like to applaud the fact that PDM Secretariat is focusing a lot on digitalization, Galabuzi said.
He further said that the tablets will facilitate more efficient gathering of information necessary for PDM operations and that through the tablets, KCCA will be better equipped to monitor the progress and challenges associated with the PDM initiative.
PDM, a government strategy aimed at transitioning households from subsistence to a money economy, was launched by President Museveni in February 2022.
The model focuses on seven key pillars, including agricultural production, financial inclusion, and community mobilization. The introduction of technology through these tablets is expected to streamline operations and enhance effectiveness in achieving the program’s goals. This move aligns with ongoing efforts by KCCA to strengthen its capacity and improve service delivery within the city, reflecting a commitment to leveraging technology for better governance.
