Security operatives in Kotido district have mounted a hunt for unidentified cattle rustlers who on Sunday night shot dead the Kapeta Sub-County council Speaker Daniel Akom and his wife Jenifer Akidi.
Police says the duo was killed from their residence at around 8pm on Sunday night as they were preparing to sleep.
Kapeta is among the new Sub-Counties in Kotido District curved from Kacheri Sub-County in Kotido district.
ASP Moses Akena, the Kotido District Police Commander said a joint security team has been activated to hunt for the suspects.
He appealed for community cooperation to combat gun crimes in the district.
Joseph Lomongin, the Kotido district Chief Administrative Officer is worried that the continued hostility against civil servants and local leaders by cattle rustlers is directly crippling the implementation of government programs.
Joseph Komol, the Kotido district LCV warned cattle rustlers against targeting civil servants and local leaders saying this will affect service delivery in the area.
“How can they expect service delivery in the area if they are killing the leaders?” he asked.
The rustlers are mainly targeting local leaders. In a period of two weeks, three local leaders have been shot dead by the rustlers.
