Kampala Land Board Chairperson Re-arraigned in Court on Fraud Charges

The Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force (CID) and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit have re-arraigned David Balondemu, the Chairperson Kampala District Land Board, and Ibona Joseph in Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on allegations of obtaining money through false pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the accused and other individuals who are still at large, under the legal firm M/S Bloom Advocates, obtained over UGX 2.2 billion from an American company called KG Unlimited LLC.

“They did this by pretending to be going to award the company a contract to supply fertiliser and agricultural drone sprayers from the Ministry of Agriculture, when in fact they were not going to do so,” the Anti-Corruption Unit stated.

The duo was remanded to Luzira until November 22, 2023.

A few weeks ago, Balondemu was arrested and charged by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit over a deal in which Korean investors were defrauded over UGX 2.2 billion but later granted bail.

Balondemu was then re-arrested on November 17, 2023, and taken into custody, where he has been until his arraignment in court on November 20, 2023.
